Archaeologia Iuventa

OHODEN-VALOGA is the first closed settlement complex found in Bulgaria, related to the Monochrome phase of Early Balkan Neolithic (6400-6300 BC). It could be synchronized with Protostarcevo phase of Neolithic cultures from territory of Serbia. Pottery have parallels in Divostin (Serbia), Koprivec and Poljanica (Bulgaria) and Otzaki Magula(Greece). During international expedition, conducted in Ohoden, following results were achieved:

1. A one-layer settlement from the Early Neolithic was discovered. The settlement is situated on left bank of Skat river, on its' first non-flooded terrace.
2. The first well preserved graves known from this period in Bulgaria.
3. The first dug-in structure from Early Neolithic was discovered and partially studied.
4. For first time in the region were discovered also miniature, well-processed flint tools.
5. The architectural structures and materials discovered have no parallels in North West Bulgaria.
6. The comparative analysis of archaeological structure and materials, shows that this is first site in the region, which can be dated to the monochrome phase of the Early Neolithic.
